5 Pre-Wedding Day Beauty Tips
By Sonia in Pre- wedding day beauty tips- Get a Facial from a Pro! My face was a mess from pre-wedding day stress. My acne usually flairs up when I’m overly anxious, so it was no surprise that my skin was worse for wear in the weeks leading up to my wedding day. I got a deep pore cleansing facial the week before my big day and then one more hydrating and rejuvenating facial the week of. I also had an eye contour treatment add-on to make sure my eyes looked bright. My skin never looked better. Be sure to go to a licensed professional in a clean and trusted environment. Whatever you do, don’t squeeze or pick your skin yourself — it may lead to infection and scarring. If you have a blemish and can’t get to a pro, use an overnight treatment based on salicylic acid – the blemish should be gone by the time you wake up.
- Get a natural glow. My complexion is peaches and cream on most days, but I always prefer the way I look with a bit of a tan. Afterall, you are wearing white and we all know white always looks best with a nice golden hue. Now, please don’t get an orange glow – you are not auditioning for Dancing with the Stars. Applying a light selftanner the week of your big day will give you a nice splash of color without turning you into an oompah loompah. Don’t ever go to a tanning salon as the rays are cancer-causing and don’t tan outside even with an SPF because you may end up with tan lines not to mention it’s never safe to be in the sun for extended periods of time. A tan in a bottle is a safe alternative and gives you a nice healthy glow.
- Eye Lash Extensions! My hair/make up artist recommended that I get lash extensions. I was apprehensive at first, as I don’t love the idea of something glued to my lashes not to mention the hefty price tag but trusted the advice of my stylist. The lashes were well worth the investment. They survived the tears that I shed before and during the ceremony – never having to fear a streaky tear moment á la Lindsay Lohan! My sister turned to me and gasped “after the wedding you have to tell me what mascara you are wearing…” Bonus — my lashes looked great throughout our beach honeymoon in St. Barths. Having great lashes saves you loads of time in the morning, not to mention, waking up looking just as pretty as when you went to bed!
- Get your hair and makeup touched up after the ceremony. It was wonderful having my makeup/hair stylist there after the ceremony to touch up my makeup and change up my hair. I let my hair down after the ceremony, literally, and I was ready to party the night away.
- Calm down. It’s your day. Enjoy it. Words that are easier said than done. I didn’t know that my nerves and the emotions of the day would get the better of me but thankfully my sister was there to calm me down with some calming essential oils. She cusped her hands and let me breathe into them. Whatever it is that helps you relax, have a trusted friend or relative be equipped to be the one to help you through the moment. Just breathe and enjoy it. Remember, it’s your day and you have a lovely man waiting for you at the end of that aisle because he wants to spend the rest of his life with you. Everything else will fall into place.
Engagement Ideas?
By Sonia in Engaged! Here is some engagement ideas!!
Holiday Fun:
Fun & Games:
- Scrabble – You could get your friends involved to be in on the whole thing. Make her be last and have your friends spell out with the letters you’ve pre-arranged for each player “Will”, the next player, then you spell out Marry me. You could also make sure she has the right letter to finish the sentence.
- Hang Man – How many tries will it take them to guess this 4 word phrase “will you marry me”!?
Public Displays of Affection:
- Lights On Broadway – Imagine the surprise when on the way to your favorite show you ask this special question.
- Proposal in Code- You could propose on a screen saver, or with a fake virus on the computer. If your a computer whiz you could do some pretty interesting things using the computer and have it go crazy and then suddenly she would see your message.
Engagement Party Ideas
By Sonia in ThoughtsThe engagement party is just the first of many more celebrations to come. Here are some unique ideas for your engagement party :)
You’ve said ‘yes’ to that special man in your life and now it’s time to celebrate your upcoming wedding with family and friends. This means you better start planning some sort of get-together or engagement party in order to spread the joyful news. Where do you start? First, you should come up with a suitable and available engagement party location, and possibly toss around a few ideas for an engagement party theme, which is perfect for couples who don’t want to trade traditional nuptials for a theme wedding.
Before You Get Started :)
Before you start brainstorming for the perfect location for your engagement party, you first need to iron out a few details, including:
• Budget: Your available budget will certainly dictate the location and other aspects of planning your engagement party. Remember this is a party meant to announce your engagement and should in no way exceed the amount of money spent on your wedding ceremony or reception. Pinch pennies now so that you have more money to spend later.
• Guest List: The number of guests will also affect your engagement party plans, as you must find a space large enough to accommodate the people you invite.
• Party Theme: If you are centering this celebration on a particular theme, it’s best to come to a final decision before browsing potential locations.
Unique Engagement Party Locations
When planning an engagement party, keep in mind that you don’t have to fall victim to the space restrictions and rules that apply to wedding locations. This means you can select sites that you’d love to have your wedding at, but just can’t pull off in time or with your budget. So, this is the time to explore partying at a sports park, old movie theater, amusement park, or historic garden. Those who wish to splurge on their engagement party location may select sites that are typically reserved for weddings, which include country clubs, reception halls, and wineries. Other engagement party locations to consider, includes:
• Your favorite restaurant
• Parent’s home
• Beach
• Park
Unique Engagement Party Themes
Looking to celebrate your engagement in style, with a touch of humor, or absolutely off-the-wall? Consider planning an engagement party centered on a particular theme. Food, decorations, and fun activities usually mimic the theme of the evening, which may include:
• A hula bash with grass skirts and Pina Coladas by the beach
• A romantic affair with dreams of the Eiffel Tower
• Recreating important milestones in your life with your fiancé
• Ball and chain humor
• Costume ball focused on famous lovers.

Extraordinary Places to Pop the Question
By Sonia in Wedding ProposalMake the moment even more memorable.
Sure, a location that holds meaning (the place you first met, your favorite restaurant, the site of your first kiss) makes for an especially poignant proposal story.
There are probably one million ways to propose marriage, but when your time comes, you may not be able to think of any of them. And ladies, sometimes, even when you both know it’s time, your guy may not be willing or able to pop the question. He might need a little boost in the right direction.
TRADITION:
The tradition of asking for a woman’s hand, dates back to the Roman custom of dextrarum juncitio or “joining of right hands”. This was the act of handing the woman over from father to husband. The ceremony also involved the purchase of the woman. The groom would give the father of the bride a coin. The father would in turn give the woman to her husband. Today, the father of the bride gives the bride away at the beginning of the ceremony.
